Between Heaven and Earth: the Eclipse, our Vines, and the 2026 Harvest

This month of August brings us many emotions as the 2026 harvest in Alsace approaches. Nature dictates its law. Celestial spectacles meet climatic challenges. Consequently, our daily life as winemakers in Dambach-la-Ville is becoming very intense. Behind the scenes, the estate is quickly getting busy. We want to share this unique atmosphere with you. Right now, our vines are experiencing a truly special moment.

Eyes to the Sky: the Famous Eclipse

Recently, the sky offered us a suspended moment. The solar eclipse cast a twilight glow over our vineyard. This rare phenomenon reminds us of our connection to cosmic cycles. After all, our profession depends heavily on nature. For a few minutes, time stopped completely. Ultimately, this poetic pause precedes our great bustling activity.

Capricious Weather and a Long Drought

Nature fascinates us, but it also challenges us. You have probably noticed the strong evolution of the weather. Furthermore, this summer is certainly no exception. A long drought persists in our region. Rain is sorely lacking on our hillsides.

However, despite this lack of water, our vines are resisting incredibly well. We rigorously work our soils to protect them. Deep down, the roots find their way. Thus, the plant draws moisture from our granitic terroir. It finds all its essential nutrients there. This situation requires daily vigilance. Every day, we walk through our plots. Then, our team carefully observes the foliage. Meanwhile, the winemaker accurately evaluates the water stress. We support the vine while respecting its natural balance.

The Countdown to the Harvest Begins!

This dry climate logically accelerates ripening. The berries soak up the sun beautifully. Therefore, they concentrate their sugars and aromas. The 2026 harvest in Alsace will begin shortly. Surprisingly, this date is ahead of our old Alsatian traditions.

At the estate, the excitement is already reaching its peak. We have sharpened all our pruning shears. Inside the cellar, the press is just waiting for the grapes. The vats will welcome our new vintage. Admittedly, the drought will probably reduce our harvest volumes. Nevertheless, we remain very confident about the quality. Visually, the health of the grape bunches remains exceptional. These grapes promise very rich wines. Future nectars will show a beautiful aromatic purity.
