The air is gradually getting cooler today. Meanwhile, light shifts softly across the landscape. Nature is clearly beginning its beautiful transition. In fact, autumn is making its grand entrance at the Schaeffer-Woerly winery. Deeply committed to organic farming, we live to the rhythm of the seasons. Furthermore, the spectacle of these changing colors is truly fascinating. Currently, our team is grabbing their pruning shears for the very last grapes. Therefore, this is the perfect opportunity to share our latest news.

The colors of autumn and the last grapes for the press
First, the harvest season is slowly coming to an end. We are bringing in the last bunches right now. Consequently, our team is finishing a harvest marked by hard work. Down in the cellar, the musts are resting safely. Soon, they will start their slow fermentation process. Overall, everyone is extremely excited about the aromatic profile of this new vintage.
Heritage and geology: the secret of the Dieffenthal whale
Our vines draw their strength from a unique soil. Wandering through our plots reveals an intriguing geological formation. Have you ever heard of the Dieffenthal whale? This massive granite rock oddly resembles a stranded marine mammal. Moreover, it was shaped by time and erosion over the centuries. It perfectly illustrates the granitic nature of our terroir. This specific soil brings distinctive minerality to our organic Alsace wines.

Cuvée Orage 2024: waiting for the much-desired rain
To begin with, the weather certainly kept us on our toes this year. Unsurprisingly, our Cuvée Orage (Storm Cuvée) carries its name well. During the summer, we spent weeks looking up at the sky. Our family was desperately hoping for a redeeming rain to hydrate the vines. Fortunately, the storms eventually brought the water we needed. As a result, this 2024 vintage reflects this climatic tension perfectly. Today, it promises to be vibrant, expressive, and full of character.

The elegance of the Pinot Noir Victoriaberg
While our white wines ferment, let’s talk about our reds. Our Pinot Noir Victoriaberg is a true pride of the estate. Thanks to well-exposed slopes, the grapes have reached an exceptional maturity. Therefore, this organic red wine reveals intense aromas of red fruits. In addition, it features a beautiful and solid tannic structure. To summarize, it embodies the elegance that Alsace Pinot Noirs can achieve today.

The emotion of an old vintage: our 1986 Riesling
Recently, we shared an incredible tasting moment together. The team opened a bottle of our historic 1986 Riesling. Amazingly, this 40-year-old wine remains quite simply fabulous! Furthermore, observing its evolution over the decades is beautiful. Both on the nose and the palate, it reveals magnificent beeswax notes. Indeed, the patina of time has given it a rare complexity. We enjoyed it during a special tasting session in our estate. For the occasion, the bottle proudly sat under our historic 1757 wooden press.
